Project Profile – Nagambie Brewery and Distillery
Nagambie Brewery is a world class micro brewery and distillery set on the shores of Lake Nagambie, around 90 minutes north of Melbourne.
Designed by Award Winning Melbourne firm Six Degrees Architecture, the architects worked with owner Gerry Ryan to create a contemporary hospitality precinct for the region, providing an all year round food and entertainment offer for locals and a must-visit destination for tourists and visitors.
The project consists of a Cafe, Brewery, Distillery, Whiskey Bar, Restaurant and Tourist Information Centre. The design of the precinct is a wonderful example of how contemporary design and architecture can reinvigorate places of historical significance, and activate a community.
Six Degrees Architects worked within the framework of the traditional heritage shopfronts and interior spaces, expertly blending the old with the new. Cascading timber decks and sheltered outdoor dining were created for visitors to discover and enjoy the unappreciated lake frontage in a whole new way.
Bowens worked closely with project builders CRC Constructions to source and supply the perfect timber solutions.
The cohesive design flows from one space to the next, connected by a distinctly Australian timber theme, with native species used extensively across all four buildings of the precinct, inside and out. From the striking custom designed barn door entry, to ceiling beams and lining panels, table tops, outdoor decks and furniture, Bowens worked closely with project builders CRC Constructions to source and supply the perfect timber solutions.
Providing an elegant yet authentically rugged aesthetic, our Queensland Spotted Gum was selected for the entry feature doors and infills, custom table tops, bar top slabs, fixed outdoor tables and bench seat, external pergola, cladding and decking … over 10km of it, if you don’t mind!
Other featured species include Oregon Beams and Silvertop Ash shiplap cladding for building facades and gables in both natural and Black Ash stain finish. Iron Ash Beams were used in the construction of pergola structure, A/C Hoop Pine plywood ceiling panels in the restaurant, and Hardwood feature slats for the brick patterned plywood wall linings used within the design of the dining space.
Since it’s completion, the Nagambie Brewery has exceeded all expectations with regard to visitations, resulting in a positive flow on effect to the local community and to other local businesses. The Bowens Team, in particular the Shepparton branch, are proud to have contributed to this landmark Regional Victoria project.
