Project Profile – The Conti, Sorrento

Rebirth of a seaside icon.

The Continental has been the most famous landmark of Victoria’s sought-after seaside town of Sorrento since 1875. Retaining the beloved heritage character, the icon has been re-imagined by award winning architects Woods Bagot as a lifestyle precinct that brings a piece of luxury to everyone with a highly curated collection of experiences.

A renovation expertly delivered.

Bowens and Circa are privileged to have worked closely with builder Hamilton Marino to realise many key aspects of the fitout, including the creation of highly detailed and customised curved handrails, finger jointed pine skirting boards, ornate MDF ceiling panels, and American Oak V-Groove linings for joinery and walls. Project Manager Taylor Doak coordinated suppliers and trades on site, and managed internal teams, stakeholders and consultants throughout the process. When reflecting on the timeline and scale of the construction, Taylor commented “the large, multi-use project was completed over the course of two and a half years including the refurbishment of an existing heritage listed Limestone building, a Hotel, and Wellness Centre”.

Full confidence.

Delivering a complex project like the Conti requires supplier partners who can provide builders with the right products and solutions on time and on budget. Bowens and Circa were chosen to supply bespoke fit out elements for the Conti including skirting boards and architraves, wall and ceiling linings, and recycled Baltic Pine flooring. Taylor commented “the value in using a renowned and large scale supplier is that the team has full confidence that the best price and availability for material is being achieved. Bowens were able to service the job throughout its life cycle with no issue, even considering the location of the project”.
